The Heusinkveld MagShift is a sequential shifter featuring a patented, 3-way adjustable magnetic actuator designed for sim racing. The heart of the MagShift is a patented magnetic actuator housed within the compact base unit. Every shift – whether up or down – produces a sharp, tactile click that replicates the mechanical engagement of a gear in a sequential racing gearbox. This feedback ensures that every gear change is clearly felt, even in high-stress racing situations.

The decisive technical advantage of the magnetic actuator over mechanical systems is the complete absence of parts subject to wear. There are no springs, ratchets, or mechanical pawls that could degrade over time. Heusinkveld has tested the system for 1,000,000 shifting cycles without any loss in shifting characteristics. This ensures shifting consistency remains perfect even after long-term, intensive use.

3-Way Shifting Force Adjustability

A key feature that sets the MagShift apart from basic sequential shifters is the complete, individual adjustability of the shifting force. The resistance can be tuned not just globally, but separately for upshifting and downshifting. Within the adjustment range of 4.5 to 11 kg, any combination or graduation is possible.

This allows, for example, a configuration with a heavy upshift and a softer downshift, mimicking the feel of certain real-world race cars. Conversely, if you prefer a symmetrical experience, you can simply set a uniform value for both directions. At the maximum setting of 11 kg, the force closely approaches the physical reality of genuine sequential racing gearboxes.

Integrated Mini Button Box with 3 Buttons and up to 10 Configurable Outputs

The MagShift base integrates three buttons with tactile feedback, which are ready to be mapped via USB immediately. Their position on the device is chosen for intuitive access during driving without interfering with the shifting process. Typical assignments include lights, wipers, pit limiter, handbrake, or launch control – depending on the simulation software and car class used.

For those wanting full customization, the free Heusinkveld SmartControl software allows the lever and the three buttons to be expanded to up to 10 fully adaptable outputs. For each individual input, a primary and a secondary output can be configured. These can be triggered simultaneously, with a delay, or independently. The trigger condition is time-based: the duration of the button press or shift determines whether the primary, secondary, or both outputs are activated.

SmartControl and SmartControl Live – Software for Full Control

The MagShift is delivered with two software components that significantly expand its capabilities:

SmartControl: The central configuration software allows for full customization of all MagShift outputs. Settings can be saved in profiles, which can be loaded at any time depending on the car, track, or discipline. Owners of other Heusinkveld SmartControl-compatible devices can create cross-device profiles for multiple products simultaneously.
SmartControl Live: This software runs in the background during simulation and allows for switching between SmartControl profiles without interrupting your session. A practical use case is, for instance, swapping the shift direction for up and down at the touch of a button while driving.

Mounting – U-Mounting Bracket with Yaw, Height, and Tilt Adjustment

Every MagShift comes with a U-shaped mounting bracket that significantly simplifies installation on your sim rig. The U-bracket attaches to the rig with only two bolts, ensuring a slim overall installation profile. For aluminum profile rigs, a single profile slot is sufficient for mounting. The MagShift is then secured to the bracket.

The mounting bracket offers three different adjustment options for fine-tuning the position:

Yaw Adjustment: By rotating the U-bracket relative to the mounting surface, the shifter can be horizontally aligned.
Height Adjustment: Three horizontal rows of mounting holes in the U-bracket allow for three different height positions. The installed height ranges from 362 mm in the lowest position to 377 mm in the highest.
Tilt Adjustment: By selecting a diagonal combination of mounting holes in the U-bracket, the tilt angle of the shifter can be adjusted.

Applications and Vehicle Classes

The MagShift is designed for use in sim racing simulators on PC. It is not compatible with consoles like Xbox or PlayStation. The simulated vehicle classes for which the MagShift is ideally suited include rally cars, GT racers, touring cars, classic race cars, and any other vehicle type with a sequential gearbox. Additionally, according to Heusinkveld, it is suitable for professional driver training, Esports use, as well as commercial and private home use.
