The Heusinkveld Sim Handbrake is a high-quality, pressure-sensitive handbrake featuring load cell technology for professional sim racing. It has been specifically developed for disciplines such as Rally, Drift, Rallycross, and other vehicle classes where a realistic and precise handbrake is crucial. The base and all load-bearing components are made of CNC precision laser-cut steel with a bead-blasted or fine-textured powder coating. The result is a compact, extremely rigid, and durable construction that performs reliably even under intense conditions.

At the heart of the Heusinkveld Handbrake is a 120kg load cell, allowing for an actual measurable force at the lever of up to 22kg. The force measurement is linear, while the output curve can be configured as non-linear via the included SmartControl software. The handbrake comes factory-calibrated and functions as a plug-and-play device, ready for use on a Windows PC immediately after connecting via USB.

The 2-Stage Spring System – Creating a Progressive Braking Feel

The centerpiece of the Heusinkveld Sim Handbrake's mechanical tuning is the 2-stage spring system. It consists of two independent stages that work together to create a realistic, progressive handbrake behavior.

The first stage is an adjustable metal coil spring. This preload spring simulates the gap between the brake pad and disc, or the slack in a real vehicle's handbrake cable. The travel and preload of this spring are individually adjustable. It can also be completely removed if a more direct braking feel without this initial phase is preferred.

The second stage is formed by Heusinkveld’s proprietary elastomers. When pulling the handbrake lever, these are compressed, creating the characteristic progressive pressure point. The package includes three elastomers of different hardness levels: soft, medium, and hard. This allows the braking force characteristics to be perfectly matched to your driving style or the simulated vehicle—for example, a softer response on gravel and a firmer profile for asphalt.

Lever Adjustment – Ergonomics for Every Setup

The lever of the Heusinkveld Sim Handbrake can be set in either a horizontal or vertical position. For each of these basic positions, five additional adjustment holes are available, allowing for fine-tuning of the lever angle by up to 26 degrees. This ensures the handbrake can be precisely adapted to your individual seating position and grip height.

Additionally, a yaw adjustment of up to 22.5 degrees is possible using the included optional adapter plate. This means the handbrake can be positioned not just in tilt, but also in horizontal orientation, ensuring it points straight toward the driver and remains ergonomically reachable in any mounting position.

Mounting Options – Flat Surface or Aluminum Profiles

The Heusinkveld Sim Handbrake can be mounted to your sim rig in two different ways:

Option 1 – Flat Surface: The handbrake base features four mounting points (two per side) for direct mounting onto a flat surface. For mounting on drilled surfaces, the length and type of required bolts must be checked individually and may need to be sourced separately, as the appropriate mounting hardware depends on the surface material.
Option 2 – Aluminum Profiles: With the included optional adapter plate, the handbrake can be easily mounted to aluminum profile rigs. A selection of bolts and T-nuts is included and should suffice for most common profile rigs. Given the wide variety of rigs on the market, Heusinkveld cannot guarantee compatibility with every single rig system. Aluminum profiles themselves are not included.

SmartControl Software – Full Control Over the Output Curve

The Heusinkveld Sim Handbrake comes with the Heusinkveld SmartControl software, allowing for extensive configuration. Through SmartControl, you can define non-linear output curves, set deadzones, and configure the maximum braking force. All settings can be saved in profiles and loaded with just a few clicks when needed. Recalibration is not required for changes made in the software.

Additionally, SmartControl Live software is available. This runs in the background while driving and allows you to switch between previously created profiles without interrupting the simulation. For instance, if you prefer a softer handbrake feel on gravel and a firmer profile on asphalt, you can toggle between these settings with a single button press. Users who own other Heusinkveld SmartControl-compatible devices, such as pedal sets, can create and manage cross-device profiles for multiple hardware components simultaneously.

The Heusinkveld Sim Handbrake is intended exclusively for use in a simulator and is not suitable for any other purposes. Typical fields of application in sim racing include Rally, Drift, Rallycross, Gymkhana, and all other driving disciplines where a handbrake is actively used.

Warranty Note

Heusinkveld grants a 24-month warranty from the date of delivery. Repairs or replacement deliveries do not extend the warranty period. The warranty does not cover defects caused by improper use or the use of non-original parts.
